What is Digital Certificate?

It typically contains your identity (name, email, country, APNIC account name and your public key). Digital Certificates use Public Key Infrastructure meaning data that has been digitally signed or encrypted by a private key can only be decrypted by its corresponding public key. A digital certificate is an electronic "credit card" that establishes your credentials when doing business or other transactions on the Web.

Digital signature certificates or DSC are required for filing income tax returns, company filings, import export clearance and e-tenders.

A Digital Signature is the equivalent of a physical signature in electronic format, as it establishes the identity of the sender of an electronic document in the Internet. Digital Signatures are used in India for online transactions such as Income Tax E-Filing, Company or LLP Incorporation, Filing Annual Return, E-Tenders, etc., There are three types of Digital Signatures, Class I, Class II and Class III Digital Signature. Class I type of Digital Signatures are only used for securing email communication. Class II type of Digital Signatures are used for Company or LLP Incorporation, IT Return E-Filing, Obtaining DIN or DPIN, and filing other forms with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Income Tax Department. Class III type Digital Signatures are used mainly for E-Tendering and for participating in E-Auctions. Digital Signatures come in the form of a USB E-Token, wherein the Digital Signature Certificate is stored in a USB Drive and can be accessed through a computer to sign documents electronically.

Common Reasons for Rejection of DSC Registration

Abbreviating names

Never abbreviate the directors' names, regardless of what is mentioned in the ID/Address proof.

Old bills

Bills shall not be older than 2 months and must be in the name of the applicant.

Prefixes

Cases in which Import Export Code is not mandatory

To start an import/ export business in India, the first thing is to obtain an IEC or Import Export License. An IEC is necessary for importing and exporting of goods.

- In case the import/export is of services or technology, IEC is required in only limited circumstances, when import/export is in 'specified services' or 'specified technologies', i.e. services or technologies in which international trade is restricted by Government of India as they pertain to national security, such as dealing in nuclear weapons, automatic guns ext.

- Import Export Code is also not necessary to be taken if the goods imported or exported is for personal use and not to be used for commercial purpose. on saving account is 2% plus rate provided by nationalized bank on saving a/c. E.g. SBI rate is 4% then max rate will be 6%.

- Import / Export done by Government of India Ministries and Departments, Notified Charitable organizations also not required to have Import Export Code.
